Why Saturday Nights at Sorrento’s Have Become So Special — and What’s Coming Next

As the holiday season winds down, I find myself feeling especially grateful — grateful for community, for shared experiences, and for the simple joy of making music in a room full of people who genuinely care.

This past Saturday night at Sorrento’s, we wrapped up our final Christmas show of the season, and it was one of those evenings that reminds me exactly why I do this.

Bassist David Lloyd and I have been playing at Sorrento’s regularly for over a year now, most often as a duo.

But nights like this become something else entirely when the music expands into David & the HeartStrings, with David S. Burk joining us on vocals and harmonica. The chemistry, the energy in the room, and the shared sense of fun made it a truly memorable night.

Sorrento’s on a Saturday evening has become a special kind of hang — a place where great food, warm service, and live jazz come together naturally. From GM Kyle Lucas, to Scotty behind the bar, to the entire staff, there’s a clear commitment to creating an experience that feels welcoming, relaxed, and just a little magical. When people linger, smile, and come back week after week, you know something’s working.

What really moved me was seeing so many familiar faces — friends who came out specifically to support the music, the room, and the vibe we’re building together. That kind of support isn’t taken lightly. In fact, thanks to so many of you, Sorrento’s received multiple 5-star Google reviews that very night — a small but meaningful reminder that live music still matters, and that community-driven spaces thrive when we show up for them.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to turn that energy into something lasting.

📅 Friday & Saturday, January 2–3, David Lloyd and I will be recording two nights live at Sorrento’s, capturing the music exactly as it lives in the room. The resulting album, scheduled for release this spring, is fittingly titled Come to Sorrento’s! If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be part of a live recording — this is it.

And as the year closes, I’ll also be taking the music just a bit farther down the road. This Friday, I’ll be appearing in Yellow Springs with my trio “A Grain of Sand,” featuring Janet Ogg on drums and David Lloyd on bass, at Emporium Wines and Underdog Cafe — another beautiful listening space where music and community intersect.
